Have some threads disappeared?

Post by Leonie » Sat Aug 13, 2011 2:05 pm

I seem to remember reading about a competition that had a couple of short story sections, one main one of 2500 (I think) words and another shorter one with less words. I think there was a poetry section as well. I was thinking about trying my hand at a short story, haven't done that since school days when we used to write what the teachers called 'compositions', and was thinking about 'cutting my teeth', as it were, on this comp but now I can't find it. :?: :?

I had an idea it might have come up in a reply to Zondrae's post about her win in a competition I think she called FAWN :?: - so went looking for that thread but it seems to be missing too.

I may not always succeed in making a difference, but I will go to my grave knowing I at least tried.

Thanks for that Maureen, it looks like the one Zondrae was talking about - and won. Congratulations again Zondrae and David (who won the free verse section), seeing as how my original post congratulating you seems to have vanished into thin air.

That comp closed on 30th June, or at least the poetry section of it did. I realise there is a prose section too that doesn't close until 30th September but I don't think that's the one I was thinking of. My memory of it isn't so much that it was part of that particular competition, but might have been mentioned in the replies in that thread. I kind of thought David might have mentioned it, but I could be way off base there. It could have been in an entirely different thread, by an entirely different person. I should have taken more notice at the time. It does seem though that the thread about Zondrae and David's win in the FAWN comp has definitely gone, and that made me wonder if there have been others that disappeared in a puff of smoke.

Gremlins maybe??

If it makes you feel any better Leonie, I've searched everywhere and can't find it either. It has not been deleted by a moderator so it must have been the gremlins.

It is strange isn't it? I sort of remember a couple of people mentioning that their posts had disappeared and I guess that can happen occasionally but a whole thread that no one in charge has deleted going pouff, yep strange. Bloody gremlins.

Leonie et al.

I can solve the mystery. Zondrae started the thread about the FAWNS (Fellowship of Australian Writers North Shore) results as we'd both been contacted the week before about our successes (two for Zondrae!)...and I responded to her thread (as did others). After posting I began to wonder if the results had been officially announced by the organisers and contacted Zondrae via email. Although nothing had been said about keeping the info confidential, Zondrae decided to delete the thread just to be on the safe side...we didn't want to tread on their toes. It's almost a week later now, so hopefully all is OK.

It was indeed a competition with a closing date of June 30 with two categories...one free verse, and one traditional poetry. FAWNS runs a couple of competitions each year, and the one set out by Maureen is the second.

So, no gremlins...just Zondrae and I being careful. Sorry about the confusion!

Cheers
David

Thanks for that David, love a mystery, but hate it when it's left unexplained :? :D so clearing it up is much appreciated. Sorry that I inadvertently bumped the results up again. Hopefully you are right and it is all official now.

All is fine, Leonie. The results have been posted on the FAWNS website. Those interested can access our poems and the judges' report via the website (http://sites.google.com/site/fawnorthsh ... ry-results)...Zondrae's is traditional verse, mine isn't.

Cheers
David
