it's been replaced with the X factor (not)
Wendys explanation sounds feasible but doubt many have heard it -however we the members of ABPA are now enlightened and can tell why, but still don't like it....doesn't have the warm fuzzies at all IMO.

" Master "
This word offends feminist post-modernists who rankle at the thought that anyone, especially a man might be said to be in a position of authority. So out go, Headmaster ( Principal) Stationmaster ( Station manager) Postmaster ( Postal manager )
Even women cannot be allowed to have authoritative titles. Matrons are now Nurse Unit Managers.
With all the women taking positions in the Army, next the Sergeant will be be Senior Soldier, the Captain, Combat Unit Manager, the Major, Area Operations Co-ordinator.

I had a neighbour who was a stay at home dad while his wife went to work - he called himself a housewife - he said that was the title that came with the job description.

And the Mass in Christ-mas is the familiar word ( to Catholics of which I am not ) for the Church Service. People who attend Mass I believe sometimes use a book called a Missal.
Mass and Missal are both related to the words..dismiss and dismissal
Go figure that out wordsmiths.......
Do I know the answer...Oh yes.

Palestine and Philistine are the same word. If you feel like listening closely to news broacasts and hear Arabs speaking Arabic about events in Israel you might be able to detect their pronunciation of Palestine..which is "Philistine".
