You've got a lot of authentic detail which builds up the picture. I think you've got the best impact because it is true to experience. If you wanted to put that in one of the bush poetry comps I reckon it would go pretty well.

Hi Dennis

I like this poem. I think what I like about it most that it is timeless - could be now or a hundred years ago. You write such a variance of poetry so I always have to have a read just to see what your up to. You seem to have the knack of getting loads of comments or very lfew. I find this interesting but can see how you like writing in different styles and on a great deal of different topics. Very interesting! Keep it up; it gets me focused and thinking. Thanks

Dolly

Liked it Dennis
The story of our land, that has been written about so many times in the past. And to write a new poem on that theme and to give the feeling that it is not just rehashing old ground is an achievement. To me, you have accomplished this, well done.

Thanks Neville, Ron and Dolly. I appreciate your comments.
Dolly, I had to smile at your comment "You seem to have the knack of getting loads of comments or very few."
I guess that is open to interpretation, a bit like some of my poems. :)

Well, mine is another comment.

A positive one. How could it be anything else.

Mate, as I read it. I lived it.
Jim.

As Ron said Dennis, a common theme often written about, it does it for me though, I could see every detail as it happened!
