Abbott, Abbott, Abbott

Abbott, Abbott, Abbott

It’s become a nasty habit all this Abbott! Abbott! Abbott!
For he can’t be held to blame for all that’s wrong;
It seems ev’ry Labor rabbit’s shouting Abbott! Abbott! Abbott!
Just because their poor old party’s had the gong.

When we speak of Liberal rats, or of those who bought pink bats,
It’s unfair to put the slipper into Abbott.
It’s not his fault that the speaker is a stooge for someone weaker
(Julia knew ol slipp’ry Pete was sure to grab it.)

And he didn’t spend the kitty, but okay his ears ain’t pretty,
But then Julia ain’t no painting done in oils,
And at least he’s not a phony, what you get is just old Tony
And if nothing else you’ve gotta say he toils.

And he won’t waste dough on schools - building crap conceived by fools,
And he’ll take a knife to the bureaucracy;
All the lefties will be chased, to the hills with all their waste,
Maybe Abbott will restore Democracy -
Abbott! Abbott! Abbott!

RESTORE democracy, Dennis? I think you're missing the point.

Gillard promised not to introduce a carbon tax, but she didn't win the election. She did not receive a mandate for her plan to not introduce a carbon tax, so it was back to the drawing board. She then formed an alliance with the Greens, because that was the only way she would get enough votes to form a government - that's how democracy works - and part of that deal was to introduce a carbon tax.

It's actually all a perfect example of democracy in action.

There's some polysyllabic patter in there Manfred :lol: ,

Dennis. The Australian poet Kevin Hart explained in a broadcast that this type of verse is called an.... harangue. Plenty of head kicking passion. :lol:

....err actually Doc, with respect, her words were "There will be no carbon tax under a government I lead" nothing to do with not introducing a carbon tax under a government I might be able to scratch together by foul means or fair....the only way this can be anything but a big fat lie....is if she was never leading the government! I'm not too sure if democracy is actually meant to work that way, you are right though when you point out that she was never, ever elected by the people, which I always though was what democracy was about....for the people, by the people!

I like the poem Dennis!

Point taken, Ross, but I don't think she ever envisioned being faced with the possibility of having to form an alliance with the Greens/Independents to form a government.

I just wonder if you'd be complaining quite so bitterly about the supposed lack of democracy if Abbott had succeeded in forming an alliance with the Independents instead of Gillard. He certainly tried.

Are we to get the Abbott habit ?
Seems as though we will.
Unless Labor pulls a rabbit
from underneath the hill.

Wonder no longer Doc, the answer of course is no I wouldn't be....unless of course he had told us he wouldn't bring in a tax and then brought it in as soon as he got into power. I am sure many of the people who voted for her would not have had they known that such a major issue would be bulldozed in as it was.....I guess we will never know... ;)
