A good read!

Post by Trisha Patterson » Wed Jan 26, 2011 4:08 pm

Hi everyone!
I finally managed to get through reading all the poetry posted since Xmas...it took me nearly 2 hours. A good read, but also a lesson in not leaving it so long before I check in! Great work everyone. Now...I just need some fresh inspiration for the rest of the year!!!
Cheers

G'day Trisha,

My writing group has a topic every week and another one each month to write a poem about.
This week we have "The Ice Cream Van" and for the monthly one "Give Me A Break". Now these suggested topics may not sound very inspiring in themselves but if you choose one, sit down and start ... you may be surprised where it takes you.

Many a good poem has muscles it's way in because of a topic that, at first, seems impossible to write a poem about. Also, you may say to yourself, 'I can't sit and write about a subject, on demand'. But again, Have you tried? I have just written what I think is a 'keeper' on our last monthly subject '... and the band played ...' . Also on an added topic 'children on a carousel'. I have yet to start this weeks poem but I will keep you posted.

Hi Zondrae,
Our Singleton Bush poets group have a monthly homework topic too, so writing on demand is something I am familiar with, even if I don't always like the topic! And as you said, some interesting work arises as a result of being put outside of ones comfort zone, but at the moment my creative side of the brain is still on holidays I think!

Goodoh Trisha,

It is funny, isn't it. We all have said and each new member says it too, "I can't just sit down and write.. I have to wait til the mood/inspiration/muse, whatever you like to call it, hits". Then we try and before you know it, we have quadrupled our output. Mind you, some of it is fit for the bin, but it is all good discipline.
