G'day Marty, and everyone,

As I understand it, the criteria that you have expressed is the standard for 'competition'. I agree with your comment so far. However, not everything that we are inspired to write (and share) strictly conforms. Also it is refreshing not to be swamped by poems about blowflies, shearers, swaggies or 'flood and drought' and it takes courage to step a little away and post a poem with a difference.

The objectives of the Australian Bush Poets Association is to foster and encourage the growth of Bush Poetry in Australia. By definition, Australian Bush Poetry is metred and rhymed poetry about Australia, Australians and/or the Australian way of life.


I don't mind a bit of variety either so long as it does not become the norm. Plenty of sites available to express our inner self.

One could argue that Simon of Cyrene is a part of the Easter story, which we will all be celebrating shortly all over Australia.
That makes it topical, at least, although I appreciate not everyone will celebrate in a religious sense.
I for one am looking forward to a few days R&R.

But seriously, not detracting from Wendy's poem - it's grandly written and I'm sure she herself agrees it doesn't perfectly conform to the said criteria, BUT . . . lets celebrate it for what it is, not what it isn't.

Hi everyone, I'm loving this debate - here's how I see it.....

‘twas Jesus of Nazareth, God’s only son
en-route to suffer for me.

If I said "en-route to suffer for you and me" (presumed), it would be more accurate and then
being about us - Australians, or some Australian's veiw of things - it would meet the criteria as sure as a
poem about the Easter Bunny hopping about, or Santa's adventures later in the year.
(By the way, I hope the Easter Bunny stocks up before he hops by my place!)

But, the meter would be shot!!
