Well I reckon it's a great depiction. Regardless of how battle trained you were, regardless of the fact that you knew the bloke you were helping would be perhaps not be any good for further fighting, regardless of the fact that your actions might cause you to cop a bullet yourself I would reckon this would be an instinctive reaction and even more so if the bloke was your brother.
Our hearts often rule our heads and would we wan't it to be different? Without compassion for our fellow man what would that make us? The real sadness behind this piece is to know that both brothers died in battle at Pozierres.
