I was being served at the supermarket today by a " youngish "checkout chick who kept calling me, " young man ".
I said " Referring to me as young man, I think has a touch of irony." She looked puzzled and said " I don't understand, irony ? "

But she then referred to me as " darlin' " ......now that is even more ironic.

I fear not Heather. The dictionary tells me that irony is use of words to mean the opposite of what is said.

Well my daughter had an ipad my son has an iphone the granddaughter has an ipod so I bought my wife an iron, is what happened next irony?

On that topic, I had a friend whose star sign was cancer and I thought it was ironic how she died . .
