HAIRLESS IN CANBERRA

Astride the stage with passion
for a radical new world.
His flag was sort of reddish
but his blood was quite sap green.
There, standing forcible and tall
with gleaming animated pate,
he preached the way to make the world
sustainable and clean.
He was the brightest star
to take the stage with Midnight Oil
until the day they found somehow
a mess with roofing foil.

   Clever and I love the drawing - did you do that Neville?

Always used to think that Peter looked like a demented brolga when he used to dance on stage with Midnight Oil

I think you've given Peter arthritis in his fingers Neville.

I love the green tie and red socks!

Thanks Maureen. That's an oil painting, I covered a piece of ply with shellac then painted the figure in oils, it was a fairly large, over a metre tall, I had intended to enter it in the Bald Archy comp but I decided it was not good enough. The painting has been destroyed.

Thanks Heather, I think you're right because they were actually my hands as the model  Yes that was my symbolism for the satirical portrait, greenie tie, socialist red socks, lawyers suit and rock band joggers.

Thanks Sue.

I liked the symbolism Neville. What do you mean the painting has been destroyed?

I think Mr Briggs does not know his own talents and the value of such an article.

Destroyed !!!! you Wally .

That would have looked very nice at a community garden setting.

Thanks for the replies folks. It didn't fulfil it's purpose. I sanded it back and gave it a coat of undercoat. I'm thinking of doing one on the same board of a well known Queensland pollie, rhymes with hatter.
