Starbathing.

Starbathing
near Silverton.

A little West of Broken Hill
there’s a place that is sublime,
a relic of the long ago
when hurry had no time.
The soil is red, the sky is blue,
bright silver in the ground,
but that was in the long ago,
no silver now is found.

As time moved on and times they changed
a silver screen became
a stage for stars to live their lives
perhaps to make their fame.
Alice said her town was here,
but there is not a spring.
A maddened Max, he came along
to do most everything.
They came. They went.
Still time stood still
as the heavens rolled slow by
in the deepest, softest darkness
of blue-black velvet sky.

The stars that shine the brightest
can be seen above a plain
a little West of Silverton,
Mundi Mundi is the name.
Starbathing in the darkest night.
Moon captured held at bay.

Lay quietly in a warm red wine
to bathe the night away.

AAAH, if only I could return.

Well done Jim,
A magic little part of Australia there, I usually do a bike trip out there each Sept. only missed a few since 2000. You have just taken me there again ;)
The silver taken out of the old Daydream mine was supposed to have had the richest content of any in the world! But what a godforsaken existence those miners had, av. male lifespan 40/44 yrs.
Quite the extremes when one considers the lives now enjoyed by movie stars!
Thanks for that mate, now ...where are those photo albums! :D

Hi Jim

Nice poem - tranquil but thought-provoking. We are the lucky country.

"Thank you one and all for your responses".

Ron, a bike trip. Motor or pushy ?
I notice you are listed as Blue Mountains.
Do you know or know of Brian Bell ?

Jim.

Haven't ridden a pushy since my youth Jim (and that was a long time ago)
Don't know Brian personally, but I did meet him many years ago at a poetry meeting in Springwood.
