A New Day
Leonie Parker © 2012

How I wish it would stop raining, grey and gloomy skies are draining,
and it’s been too long since I have seen a bright sun overhead.
Every morning it is foggy and the ground is damp and soggy
and it’s getting so depressing I don’t want to leave my bed.

But the bedside clock is ringing and outside I hear birds singing
and I think I see a little ray of sunshine through the gloom,
so I’m throwing off my cover, greeting morning like a lover
whose been starved of all affection far too long for hope to bloom.

And the morning sky is pallid but a spark of hope is valid
for a watery but lucent glow is lightening the grey,
and the air is softly warming while a patch of blue is forming
on the pink tinged womb like ceiling of the birth of a new day.

Know the feeling Leonie. If it makes you feel any better here it's been wet, wet, wet here too and if it's not wet it's really, really cold! Like the feel of your poem Leonie. Saw the sun for a few hours today but not for long.

Heather :)

Just in between Nev and up here we call it liquid sunshine.
