I wish someone would listen

Maureen's poem about Bindi Irwin inspired me to write this. It's a little 'off topic' but maybe not all that far sadly.

I wish someone would listen

Bindi Irwin has a point I’m sure most would agree
that over population isn’t where we ought to be
and politicians never seem to really understand
that over population is a threat to any land.

But maybe we all have it wrong, perhaps they’re well prepared.
There is a chance they have a plan, just one they haven’t shared
and maybe I’m a cynic, (no - no maybes, that’s for sure),
because I hear it plainly – those faint beating drums of war.

And we all fall into their trap, send emails by the ton
extolling brave combatants of a war that can’t be won.
The poets write their poetry, the singers sing their songs
and politicians talk their talk of heroes righting wrongs.

But there can be no winners even though they tell us so.
Sometimes I wish we’d all join hands and just refuse to go.
I know that’s unrealistic but I watch the flag unfurl
and wish someone would listen to a 14 year old girl.

well said Leonie - but don't hold your breath and totally agree with the soldiers not going. I have said for ages that when countries want to fight a war we should put the major combatants heads of state etc ( those who want the war) into a paddock with every bit of modern warfare technology at their disposal and let THEM battle it out. Last man standing is the winner, and the only blood shed would be theirs.

Enjoyed the read

Cheers

Maureen

another good poem Leonie, I suspect that the way this thing has gone it will do Bindi's cause more good than harm, it would have had very little impact if it had been left in but the commotion that will get kicked up now will bring it to everyones attention, I bet there are people lining up now to buy the rights to the original essay to publish it!
