THE POA TREE
©M. PATTIE 2013

The Poa Tree of Australia, is something to admire,
weather-frozen in the Snowys or an outback Queensland fire.
Its roots are in the bush we know, (they’re actually in the ground)
but now in towns and cities our Bush Poa Tree is found.

So this ere is a pome about our Aussie Poa Tree;
the Strayan strain that’s grown right here since . . . (Christ! Might when that be?)
Our Poa Tree is measured from the bottom to the top,
so when you cannot count the metre – best thing is to stop.

Our Aussie Poa Tree does best, when spruced by flappin’ gums.
You’ll find that wattle happen - is that seats will fill with bums.
To propagate is easy, but there’s one thing that you’ll need:
a fertile climate, bullshit and a ripe Poa Tree seed.

Just like the sacred Bodi tree, our Poa Tree has power,
in bloom our beaut bush Poa Tree has such a lovely flower.
Its ideal growth conditions are bright sunshine from above,
and flower when it’s damper, your bush Poa Tree will love.

Some say that it’s a weed, (but those who do say in free verse)
not “Murder bloody murder!” just like Paterson’s blue curse.
It loves wet feet, and sometimes an accompanying guitar,
but does like liquid fertilising, like a cooler bar.

There’s shades of old Willow Gilvie, his blood would wealth for toil.
Australian Bush Poa Tree is Leichhardt, in fine oil.
So put your Penda paper, plant your Poa Tree affairs,
and then sit back and marvel at the fertile fruit it bears.

I think we should all be spreading the seeds of Poa tree as far as we can, to enable a good crop of fruit over the coming years.

You're a clever bloke Marty - loved it

Hi Marty, I'm embarrassed to admit it but for a beat or two when I saw your title I though Poa? Never heard of it.
