BOXING DON'T COME EASY

BOXING DON’T COME EASY

I always thought it wouldn’t be as easy as they said,
couldn’t get to sort the process out inside my head,
in the end my doubting mind turned out to be right,
this a mission that would surely keep one up at night.

The subject of this discourse is one that had me stewing
about what was the best way to improve our TV viewing.
Set top box does the trick, said everyone I asked,
simply connected, cheap to buy, gives picture unsurpassed.

Easily installed, yeah right, a great concept that was,
maybe worked with some TVs but, not with ours because
the good old Panasonic in our lounge came from the Ark,
connecting anything to it raised a big question mark.

Undaunted though, a search began and went from store to store
to find a set top box to boost transmission more.
Big W supplied a set which didn’t make things work,
JB Hi Fi’s salesman seemed to be a total berk.

Finally, when set top box talk all appeared a myth,
a small glimmer of hope was offered at Dick Smith.
Photos of the back of TV plus the DVD
meant a deal to Sam from Dick’s but, not a lot to me.

“It’s all to do with holes” said Sam, “follow if you’re able,
there’s two on TV but, you need three to join the cable”.
He could be speaking Kurdish for all I understood,
looking at me like I was a life sized lump of wood.

“A BNC-RCA adaptor’s what you need”,
Sam seemed pretty certain that this would do the deed.
Unfortunately, he did not stock this little gem
But, Jaycar out at Ipswich, one could be bought from them.

Fifty Km later and now Jaycar adaptored
the set top box treasure tale was surely many chaptered.
Armed with all things needed and drawings penned by Sam,
next came assignment show time, the set top box exam.

And you know what, I’m pleased to say it all fell into place,
usually when I install things that is not the case,
picture perfect, colour clear, sound and channels fine,
Sam, you little beauty, may your star sign shine.

Feels good to have successfully steered this project through
‘cause for the most part of the job I didn’t have a clue.
Result is on the board now, lucky no own goals,
just ask me and I’ll tell you lots on cables and on holes.

I just bought a digital TV, cheap at Aldis. Plug in and you're away. ;) :)

Hi Wazza, G'day Neville

This poem was written in 2012 when the old Panasonic was going well. Alas, late in 2013 it gave up the ghost and we replaced it with a new digital whizz bang TV.

Still, the set top box experiment was worthwhile and served its purpose (as well as finding out about the cables and the holes).

Cheers, Jeff
