An Essay in Verse, (if there is such a thing).

An Essay in verse, (if there is such a thing), on an element of Human Nature.

‘Big Ego’ struts his personal stage as his wont was such,
While poor old ‘Lack of self esteem’ well he didn’t ask for much,
For when the critics caned him bad, as often was the case,
The shell built from down-trodden past, inhabited the space
Around his sad but stoic frame and steeled all his resolve
To build resistance cannily, venturing to absolve
Himself from all the poisoned darts of those who put him down
And let them wallow in their drift and in their criticism drown.

Compassion is “Big Ego’s” thing, but only on his terms
For being centre of the universe, only confirms,
That praise and adulation is but just a one way street
That has the bigots of the world, believing they’re elite,
Who tell old ‘Lack of self esteem’ his initials spell out Lose!
And that his station in the world is one that he did choose,
So on they breathe each breath of life, although but poles apart
Where confidence can rule the day in body and in heart!

For ‘Ego’ it comes naturally and is for all to see
He does achieve and credit due, but ‘tis all about me!
And for old ‘Lack of self esteem’, a battle all the way
That looks him squarely in the eye on each and every day,
Though! empathy is a trait he easily understands,
That ‘Ego’ is oblivious to, within his mirror scans,
But such is life’s diversity, though what a magic sound
When both extremes have summoned strength, to tread the middle ground.

Yeah mate, the pen is mightier than the sw... err trowell! This semi retirement is good in the fact that you don't face the evening with scrambled brains after a hard day! :o Flip side is though when going back to do a couple of days there is not one bone in the body that doesn't bloody ache!! All good though! ;) :D

I really like that Ron and read it a couple of times (and will again). There's a lot of human observation wrapped up in those few lines.

Hi Ron,
A lot can be read into this one and very well written as well.

Speaking of aching bones mate, it seems it fatal to stop (for too long) either voluntarily or through thing beyond your control.
The old adage use it or lose appears to pretty good advice.

Cheers Terry
