All you Grandies out there - are you bleesed with a grand child with an unusual name?
The short list of names for my new granddaughter due in 2 weeks includes "Dorrit"
I personally am unphased (one of my favaourite Dickens books) but I know it could create conversation.
Of course as long as mum and bub are fine then it doesn't matter a jot. Tell me your story.

We had an officer at our station whose surname was Kletzenbauer, to general amusement he was always spelling his name to phone callers. Another officer had the surname Alexanderwicz, he acquired the nickname of " A to Z"

I wanted to name my son D'artagnan - my then Husband put his foot down and we settled for David - I've had to expel my fetish for different names to my dogs, Khadizia, Anushka, Mahalia and my new one - when I find him/her Khama-d as in Carmody - a combination of Khadizia/Mahalia/David.

Nev, my maiden name started with A then I become and S - front of the line to the back!!
I have no aversion to any of those names Maureen - very noble I think.

A pet subject of mine. I think the important thing is to think of the person who is going to have spend his/her life with the name given to them by their parents. It might be very appealing to the parents to bestow and unusual name upon their child but fancy having to explain, spell or repeat your name for the rest of your life. Similarly I think it is important to think about the likely abbreviated form of any name given or the nick name it is likely to attract.

Names are very very important and I think parents really should think long and hard before jumping the gun.

Many yeas ago I knew an Austrian fellow whose name was Rudy Schitzalotte. Someone pointed out to Rudy that his name really was a little strange in Australia so he changed it to Rudolph Schitzalotte. Absolutely true story!

I met a bloke this year in the park whose name was Chadwick Chadwick ?

Of course he shortened the first to just Chad.

We have young friends who named their son Orson Danger Armytage (that's all Christian names).

And on the subject of surnames, my mother-in-law used to tell a story she insisted was true ... that she had a school teacher named Miss Twine who married a Mr Hessian!

Certainly some stories out there! I am impressed with D'Artagnan, Maureen!
