W/E/26-4 -16 FRED THE LEGEND

Post by Terry » Fri Apr 15, 2016 10:19 am

Fred the Legend

He was a legendary bloke, who sometimes crossed the line,
a Bundy drinking chain smoking very good mate of mine.
He lived out on the goldfields and had earned some doubtful fame,
as wild and unpredictable - I liked him just the same.

A dynamic sort of showman who kept us all amused,
but caused a few red faces with the language that he used.
For swearing was his forte, and he practiced every day,
and didn’t care who listened when he gave a verbal spray.

Fist fighting was his hobby and they called him king of swing,
you never bothered arguing when talking to the king.
Despite his reputation he’s a decent sort of bloke,
who’d offer you a dollar if you happened to be broke.

He had a high pitched voice and loved to give a song a try,
though sounded like a broken down soprano in July.
But nothing would deter him there from singing all the hits;
we never dared to tell him that he really was the pits. (or something like that)

Fred really was a tough bloke as some memories attest,
although - he never would drink water – alcohol was best.
I haven’t seen him now for years; he’s disappeared from sight,
no doubt he’s drinking Bundy in a pub still every night.

Love it Terry - a real knockabout bloke the kind one often meets in country pubs, all with a story to tell. You made good use of the prompts to tell the tale. You might want to fix up your title and take the extra D out of Legend though.

Thanks Neville & Maureen

I reckon you would have met a few legends in you former occupation Nev.

I always was a lousy speller Maureen - I'll fix it.

Cheers

A typo I think Terry because it wasn't incorrect in the poem ... typos happen

Any bloke who drinks Bundy cannot be all bad.
