Homework w/e 10th September - Blind date

So sorry....so very late!!!

This is the tale of Penelope Prune
and how it came to be
Penny encountered a dashing young date
and married by the sea.

Late one September a friend came to call
and said, “Oh Penny dear,
Please be a love and deliver this scarf
to Danny on the pier.”

Nervous was she as she knocked on the door,
a voice said “Please come in.”
Startled to find Danny Date couldn’t see,
but wore a welcoming grin.

Errand accomplished, they started to talk –
the first of many more.
One day she came and was happy to see
he’d hung a ring on the door!

Hardly containing her rapture and joy,
she sat to do the sums.
Guest lists became like a synonym roll
of all their chutney chums.

Walking the aisle through a passage in thyme,
(their currant fav’rite herb),
Music provided by such a cool band,
“The Cutecumber Reverb.”

Settling down in their house on the pier,
they raised their family.
Ingredient list for a total fruit cake!
A banquet by the sea.

Oh well done you A poem of substance and moral fibre with a happy ending. Innovative use of the prompts Wendy - you got me with the chutney chums The MC's could have ended up in a pickle as well, but you skilfully avoided getting them in a jam and settled for a melding of flavours instead. A clever write

So clever, Wendy!

I’m a real fan of “play on words” and you’ve certainly rolled out a great example. This is a good poem for adults and kids alike, and I think it has a life beyond the writing workshop.

Definitely worth waiting for!

Hi Wendy, I've been away from here for a while due to one thing and another, but what a treat to come online at last to read some poetry today, and find your excellent Blind Date! I can only dream of thinking as out of the box as you do and this is indeed very clever!
