Interesting to look back and see how our parents shaped our lives. Terry, I'm guessing that your love of the outdoors originated with your father. If so, he'd be proud of the poem.

Cheers

Many thanks Catherine And David.

Catherine
My dad passed away some years ago now, but I still have very fond memories of him,
He was a man pretty well liked by everyone I think.
It's only after our loved ones are gone that most of us start wishing we had spent a bit more time with them.

David,
Your right, my father was the sort of dad that loved the outdoors - fishing in particular.
And whenever possible he took me with him, right from the time I was a small boy.
The shack mentioned in the poem was very special, in those days it was an adventure and took hours just getting there.
It was the only one there and miles from anywhere - great memories.

Good one, Terry . . . having not grown up by the sea and rarely visiting it as a kid, I can empathise with that fear a kid has of the ocean at its fiercest. I still remember my uncle getting dumped by a wave and having his nose spread across his face.

Now it's the crocs and stingers that keep my out of the sea, give me the river any day. ;)

Cheers, Marty

Can someone please break into my earlier response and remove the apostrophe in dads. I don't know how to doodle it.

Thank you,
Wazza

Hi Heather & Marty

The southern ocean where the shack was situated can be a very rough place indeed.
and even in calm weather it's a very dangerous place for swimming with vicious rips behind the reef.
We sometimes used to walk around to the rocks where there was a natural swimming pool
that was safe to swim in. In later years we took our own children there for a swim at times.

As you say Heather childhood memories are precious aren't they.
