Re: Homework - What Mum said
Hi Catherine
Sorry for my late response - I'm behind with reading the posts at the moment! I can really relate to this poem - not only is it beautifully written, but it is just what I'm going through with my 90 year old Mum at this very moment. Her anxiety in particular has been sharpened since she suffered a stroke in January, and I seem to be in a state of constant damage control.
It's lovely to be reminded through your poem of the wisdom our mothers have given us - and to remember that whatever happens, they are still "Mum".
Thanks so much for giving me such a lift.
Best Regards
Shelley

Re: Homework - What Mum said
Thank you so much for your lovely words Shelley. I am very sorry that your Mum is currently in a similar state of mind to my own, so it means a lot to me that this poem has given you a lift. Anxiety is not necessarily discussed as much as other more tangible issues in the elderly, but I never realised how debilitating it can be until Mum went like this. It is so sad to see once vibrant, positive loved ones suffer these fearful feelings and know there is nothing we can do. However, like you I try to focus on the Mum she once was, so the 'lift' you mention in your post has been mutual and timely today - thank you x

Hi Catherine
As others have already said a really lovely poem.
Mothers are just so special aren't they?
It must be difficult watching her changing from the wise vibrant person she once was.
I lost my mum when I was 15 and she was only 37 years old.
It seemed like I'd lost the most precious thing in the world at that time.

Re: Homework - What Mum said
Thank you Shelley - I will. It is hard when I live so far away from them both, but I do try to get over as often as I can. You take care too - you are certainly in my thoughts at this time.
Terry - thank you too for your very kind words. I am so very sorry to hear you lost your Mum at such a young age - that must have been absolutely devastating! Mum is 93 now so I can count my blessings in this respect, but yes it is indeed sad to see such special people in our lives deteriorate in such a manner.
Sincere thanks to both of you once again xx
