THE CALL OF THE MOUNTAINS
When I take my last breath and depart from this life
then my final request is but small.
That my soul and my spirit returns to that place,
in the mountains where currawongs call.
It's a place where the soul feels at one with the earth
way up there where the eucalypts grow.
Where brumbys run free and the wild dingo howls,
grant me this, my last wish, do bestow.
For the times I have spent there are times I recall,
mountain air so refreshing, so clean.
Like a magnet it draws you again and again,
take me back to this magical scene.
Climb the highest peak there, breath the clear mountain air,
understand what this place means to me.
On the crisp mountain breeze, let my ashes go free,
grant me this, my last wish, let it be.
