I was thinking only yesterday
about the funny things we say,
further research left me agog,
our language is a travel log!
You’ve been misled by friend or foe,
then up the garden path you go!
You don’t comply, take a diff’rent tack,
you like it off the beaten track.
An annoying aunt or babbling friend
has totally driven you ‘round the bend!
And a personage you can’t recall
actually drove you up the wall!
When you’ve searched, no result at a frantic pace…
you’ve been sent on a wild goose chase.
If taking risks is your life’s dance…
then you fly by the seat of your pants.
When you’re ready to leave your abode,
you’ll be set to hit the frog ‘n’ toad.
You’re backed into a corner, ready to freak,
you’re without a paddle up the creek!
When you’re vague on purpose, shove can’t make push,
It’s clear you’re beating ‘round the bush.
This pie’s the tastiest in quite a while,
in fact it’s best by a country mile.
You’re over fifty, treated like a dill…
then you’re clearly old – you’re over the hill.
You’ve been deceived, you’ve hurt your pride,
then you’ve been taken for a ride.
So, come on you lot – your turn now,
please add to my little list,
take the time to make a rhyme…
I think you’ve got the gist.
