‘Homework Prompts’
The day was filled with chaos; everything went wrong.
My brain was really scrambled – lasting all day long.
A nice glass of Riesling would maybe do the trick
simply as a tonic to help the phrases click.
This fortnight’s homework challenge gave me pause for thought
I didn’t have a clue; I tried, but came up short.
My mind was in turmoil; I couldn’t make it work.
I tried calm persistence, but almost went berserk.
Endless nights I’d lie awake; I just couldn’t sleep.
I had so much trouble, even tried counting sheep.
My mind over active; my brain not out of gear
But, I discovered something I hope you won’t find queer.
At the midnight hour, if you watch carefully
(you may consider even to act prayerfully)
you can see fireflies reach for the sky at night
silently, and gracefully, on their wing-ed flight.
The turmoil of day has gone, yet sleep still evades -
my thoughts of a silver stream with soft dappled glades.
Oh, if I could be there, to hear the river speak
perhaps my thoughts of homework wouldn’t be as bleak.
Its complicated counting sheep – I know. I’ve tried -
endless thoughts inside my head alas still reside.
My nerves seem really taught - on edge about to fray
they’re just hanging by a thread at the end of the day.
I kept on trying and, I think, the battle won.
I used each silly prompt there was to use. Home run?
And even though I found the challenge not child’s play
I hope next week’s homework prompts won’t lead us astray.

Silly prompts - well really
Never mind you met the challenge and it did make you think didn't it? My mission is accomplished
Well done Jakki
Typo/spell check you might want to fix -
Good on you Jakki - I'll try not to be so difficult next week
You wish
Cheers
Maureen

Unless your nerves are on a learning curve which of course they may well be after having to deal with the trauma of using the prompts I think 'taut' might be the word you are seeking as in tight, tense or strained. My nerves seem really taught - on edge about to fray
Good on you Jakki - I'll try not to be so difficult next week

Cheers
