All my dreams denied
Leonie Parker © 2011
It’s written in old scrapbooks from across the sands of time
how our beloved soldiers were accused of some war crime.
I never knew the details only that somebody said
the mateship rule was broken and some people wound up dead.
It happened in my Granddad’s day at least that’s what I heard,
way up in the high country where the solitude’s preferred.
My Grandad was involved somehow. My father’s words were snide,
and tainted my sweet memory, and all my dreams denied.
