The Droving Days

"A dollar for the old grey horse" he screamed
"What? A Dollar? You Must be joking
I'd rather spend my money on
Some of the stuff that youve been smoking

"You can't buy a horse for a dollar!"
I cried to the auctioneer
But "A dollar for the old grey horse" he cried
Yet not one bid did I hear

I peered into the horse's eyes
And saddness touched my heart
The work this poor old grey had done
Would tear your heart apart

And now here in it's aging years
It stood, unwanted, rejected
I shed a tear and made my bid
One dollar, and it was accepted

Yes the old grey horse was knocked down to me
I took my dollar and passed it
He took the dollar, the horse jumped the fence
And he said, "Now go catch the bastard!"

I said to the old bloke beside me
"That's bloody robbery at it's peak!!"
"You're bloody lucky, " the old bloke said
"I paid FIVE bucks for the bugger last week!"

I'll get into trouble for saying this (but what's new), the story of the old horse, old violin, old whatever in the auction has become a sentimental cliché, so a parody like this I think is a good idea to remind us to beware of worn out themes . Good one Neil.
