Homework prompts - These Things Are Sent To Try Us
These Things Are Sent To Try Us
The bloody cakes aren’t cooked
because the oven’s really stuffed
and the vet told me today
that my pug is up the duff.
Now I cannot find the cheque
that my ex says he has sent
and I’ve lately started thinking
that my eldest child is bent.
Have to wash up in the kitchen sink,
my Dishlex has the ....
Then to find I've got no Morning Fresh.
Some days are sure the pits.
My lawn is looking crappy.
There’s no water in the bore.
The shrubs have had the richard
and the garden is no more.
There are mice inside my pantry.
There are cockies ‘neath my sink.
The liquor cabinet’s empty
and I’m lusting for a drink.
To top it all my budgie’s
got a lump behind it's head
My neighbour said “A tumour!
Won't be long before it's dead."
Times like these I think of mother
standing sto-ic-ally by us,
saying “That’s just how it is sometimes.
These things are sent to try us.”

Gee you had more than your share of minor hiccups Wazza - it's a wonder you didn't throw the towel in
Your poem nicely captured your Mother's little homily - well done you

Thanks Maureen. I enjoy your homework challenges. Having something specific to write to somehow makes it easier.

"Life wasn't meant to be easy." comes to mind.

That's a good one Wazza - Mum always used to say that to us, although we didn't have some of the same 'issues' as you've outlined here
