Well seems no one is game to have a go at this one - or maybe just too busy or not interested, so I can't leave Allan out there floundering on his own ..... here's my attempt.
Unconstrained Poet …. Maureen Clifford © The Scribbly Bark Poet
I’m walking on the dark side with a free and easy step
and there’s optimism glowing in my heart
which perhaps is somewhat misplaced but I’m far from beaten yet
unconstrained, and even cheerful from the start.
There is something of the rebel that still stirs my stumps today
even though now just an old tart I’ve become,
it’s the untrained melody that keeps circulating my head
and that drummer – he who plays a different drum.
Why should I be hidebound by other people’s thoughts and ploys?
Why should I fit a mould not of my making?
Why should I try to fit an image that is not for me?
Who is it that this task is undertaking?
I can do what I want to; when I want to, if I please.
No man can dictate what I now should write.
My inner muse is driving what my pen puts on the page
You may not think it smart or cool or right.
But I’m walking on the dark side and the weather here is fine
‘tis just that one’s perceptions may have changed.
There is no obligation for any one now to read.
You may – or may not. Need we be estranged?
I like a bit of pickle with my cheese sometimes, I find
at other times it’s chutney fills the bill
and sometimes it’s an apple – unconventional some say
but my poetic taste buds wander unconstrained and with free will.

I may not always succeed in making a difference, but I will go to my grave knowing I at least tried.
