A Stolen Kiss
The flood plain sparkles brightly here as sun shines on the snow
and memories resurface now of days from long ago.
Fresh snow upon the trees nearby awakens dreams once more,
of stolen kisses from the past when you lived here before.
The snowy mountains rise behind and bring a sense of awe
and there’s the trickling of the creeks as ice begins to thaw.
A trick of light and shadows move out in the falling sleet
and I could swear I see you there down where we used to meet.
I look once more at what remains of this old shack to day
and if these walls could only talk I wonder what they’d say.
Of talk around a blazing fire that kept this old shack warm,
when just outside a blizzard - or a freezing winter’s storm.
What secret lover’s whispers then are locked still deep inside?
What memories remain of early times now cast aside?
It’s National Park through here, and the pioneers moved on,
an era has now ended – and the grand old days long gone.
