Homework 27th July 2015 - The Faith That Conquers Fear

The Faith That Conquers Fear

It seemed like a nightmare—incredible pain he had never once dreamed could exist—
as writhing in terror, he helplessly lay in that trench begging anguish desist.
A legion of demons, like riotous ringers determined on mustering sheep,
appeared through the billowing smoke and the vast raging wall blazing monstrous and steep.
Like ghosts of departed malevolent souls of the damned they surrounded that place,
as Private McNee tore and cursed at the napalm that blistered his once handsome face.
Despair took a hold as his fear conjured tongues lolling wildly and mocking his name,
heard teeth gnashing loudly, while wicked horns glinted in threatening, flickering flame.
With thoughts in confusion, his bowels loosed at once at the horrors that danced in his mind
while torture and sadness, the cruellest imaginings, crazily, gravely combined.
With everything in him denying this vision, determined to fight and repel,
young Private McNee gathered all of his strength as he screamed for delivery from Hell.
Then suddenly torment subsided as glorious light seemed to burst overhead,
encompassing infinite love and compassion, removing his suffering and dread.
Such peace filled his heart as in awed final moments he glimpsed the Immortal Divine—
“Fear not,” said the Voice, you’ve fought bravely and well, and I claim you forever as Mine.”
