Homework August 24: A Poem for Bob
Posted: Sat Aug 22, 2015 4:42 pm
Maureen, Trish, Shelley and Catherine have all produced beautifully-written, evocative poems for this set of prompts, but I've taken a slightly different tack. (Sorry to break the mood!)
A Poem for Bob
Okay, you poets, listen here
so I can make a few things clear…
I’ve told you twenty thousand times
to stick to poetry that rhymes!
Forget this silly free verse crap!
I mean to say, what sort of chap
would write of rugby’s majesty
with verse unrhymed and running free?
And don’t get bogged in grammar stuff,
for near enough is good enough,
and if there should be something wrong
my parents said “Just play along!”
The only avenue worthwhile
is getting folks to crack a smile,
so slap those lines down on the page,
then go perform them on a stage.
And if your thoughts aren’t bearing fruit,
your muse is really destitute,
I’m sure you’ll find the words you seek
while fishing up that well-known creek!
