Homework September 7: Old Blue

Post by David Campbell » Wed Aug 26, 2015 5:31 pm

Old Blue

I useter be a redhead,
me top the shade o’ rust,
an’ people often reckoned
I ’ad a ginger crust.

I copped the nickname “Bloodnut”
at school with ’air so red.
Them boys all got the giggles
an’ called it bronzed an’ dead.

Me Mum said it was auburn,
the hue of flowers rare,
but still they called me “Bluey”
while laughin’ at me ’air.

But girls all seemed ter like it,
and praised me expertise…
I was a priceless master,
they said, ’oo aimed ter please!

They felt love’s sweet, wild music
when they was in me arms,
and intermingled pathos
when they had lost me charms.

But now there’s open spaces
where ’air once useter play,
an’ I am left ter ponder
old dreams of yesterday.

Razor blades for brekkie David  You're sharp and quick off the mark. It's a terrible shock when blokes start to lose their hair and an even bigger shock to the rest of us when they resort to the dreaded comb-over or the toupee.
Me Mum said it was auburn,
the hue of flowers rare,
Love it - I'm thinking of a rich rust coloured nasturtium or a Moulin Rouge Sunflower - neither particularly rare I suppose but toughnuts.

I like the use you made of the prompts David - very well done.

Great stuff David - I just loved it! Channelling Ginger Mick, perhaps ??? :D I dips me lid!

I looked at this week's prompts (all 9 of them) with dismay and wondered how to start - and now you've made it look so easy!!

Cheers, Shelley
