Homework - The Seeker

The barman tried to put me off—he shook his head, confused;
“That red dirt road goes nowhere mate. I’d change your plans,” he mused.
Yet here I stand regardless, stroking precious magic stones,
and smiling at the ancient wisdom coursing through my bones;
the timeless stories handed down from forebears of my clan—
now duty calls— I’ll make this journey, prove myself a man.
The skyline shimmers brightly, there are unknown fears ahead,
but troubles build our characters - that’s what the elders said.
No matter where the road may lead, how far I have to go,
I’ll prove myself, and find myself, and in the end I’ll know
there’s always something round the bend, another way back home,
regardless of the hardships or how far one has to roam.
There’s no such thing as roads to nowhere, just alternate ways—
the destination might take years to reach, or months, or days,
but nowhere’s always close to somewhere – this remains a fact,
and insight’s gained from different people met, and paths you’ve tracked.
This red dirt road goes nowhere so they say, yet here I stand,
determined I will follow it, traverse this sacred land...
I raise my eyes to focus, picture every challenge won—
then take my first few steps towards that distant shining sun.
