A SINGLE SHOT

A bunch of little tasty bunnies
grazing on that tussock rise;
my trusty old bazooka will
bag one, if they stay still.

I'll do it curried, baked or fried
with onions, carrots, peas and chips.
So now I line the sights just so
and squeeze the trigger nice and slow,

a single shot; one's for the pot ?
Ahh ! missed. Hey! where'd those mongrels go.

Good one Neville

I know a fellow who lived NSW as a kid and he said they shot and ate rabbit all the time. I wonder if kids today would eat wild rabbit. Maybe they would if it was packaged under the name of a popular fast food chain.

Enjoyed it!

Cheers
Dot

Thanks for the replies Dot and Maureen.

Poetry has that element of metaphor. When I look at the contemporary political scene I reflect on the poetic words of the Hebrew prophet Jeremiah who wrote " Call Pharaoh, King of Egypt " Braggart " the man who missed his moment ".
I've missed a few of my moments too.

Chips are bad, Neville. Very, very bad.

I recently heard that if you ate only rabbit you would become malnourished. I don't know why you would only eat rabbit, but there you go.

Heather :)

If you were out in the scrub and rabbits were all you could find for food I assume you would be susceptible to " rabbit starvation" as it is called.
Rabbit starvation is caused by lack of fat in the diet, so chips might not be so bad after all. :)

Ok, chips, but only with rabbit. :)
