Seeking Freedom
I have no love or life to hold
no one to share my sorrow.
No money and no honey whose sweet smile
greets my tomorrow.
My youth was filled with courting
the crowd with which I hung were bad.
Now that is oh so tragic
I feel so sad, so very sad.
I learned to play the guitar
it filled my heart with glee.
The songs I played were gentle
they all thought it poetry.
I met her at a festival
her smile brought me alive.
and with her help I was reborn
she helped me to survive.
I never told her of my love
for my pathway it was set.
and when she died I closed my eyes.
condemned to long regret.
We couldn't save her, in the end
though God knows that we tried.
and without her smile the world changed
rock rocked and music died.
So now I seem to wander aimlessly
like some pedestrian who's blind
I seek the places that we loved
those dark corners in my mind.
Perhaps some day I'll find another
who will take my hand and say.
Trust in yourself, follow your dreams
each day's a brand new day.
