Homework WE 20/6/16 - City Rain

Very topical prompts this week, Maureen - with the wild weather so many people have experienced. Here it was a bit of a non-event - we had about 40 mm of rain but no wind or wild stuff.
City Rain
(c) Shelley Hansen 6/6/16
I’m watching from the thirteenth floor
this cold and windy day –
the sky defining nothing more
than rain clouds – wet and grey.
Umbrellas, domed like mushrooms, glide
along the sodden street.
Anonymous – their colours hide
the march of city feet.
The sidewalk café tables stand
in silence, stark and glum.
The brawling of a sparrow wins
a final soggy crumb.
Torn fabrics, dancing in the wind,
adorn the shopfront signs,
as rain pours down and light is thinned,
and droplets paint designs
in plate glass window rivulets,
defying gravity,
to wash away my sad regrets
and set my spirit free.
