THIRST FOR THE SEA ... Maureen Clifford © The #ScribblyBark Poet

Time to leave safe harbour, time to head to sea -
sick of being landlocked -need now to be free.
All the gear is loaded, anchors stowed away
for the little tinny which might see use one day.

Lots of spit and polish, lots of buff and shine,
the sea is his mistress - he finds that life sublime.
Me? I'm all for cruising - far away from docks,
all cities and people. Give me vodka on the rocks.

A glassy bay at sunset, the slap and swirl of tides,
whale-song echoing through the hull. Stormy petrel glides
high above - then glancing waves with wingtips as he dives,
seeking fish - 'tis only me and dark clouds hear his cries.

At the clouds he's laughing, as he swoops and sweeps.
Man proposes God disposes - men are known to weep
viewing nature's beauty, wild unfettered, free.
Time to leave safe harbour, time to head to sea.

As David has pointed out to me the prompt I gave of anchors away - in nautical terms would be anchors aweigh as in a report that the anchors are clear of the sea bottom and, therefore, the ship is officially underway.

Nice Maureen - I'm a bit stuck on this one being a bush baby.
Can't get my head around nautical things.
It's not going to beat me though :)

The call of the sea has been such a powerful one through the ages, Maureen! And it calls us still ...

David is right - there is a stirring march called "Anchors Aweigh!"

Like Wendy, I'm still pondering these prompts, but hopefully the Muse will uncurl herself before the fortnight ends!!

Cheers
Shelley

Some enticing imagery there, Maureen...if only it wasn't for seasickness and a definite preference for being a landlubber!

Cheers
David

I'm with you David - but my son is a boaty - boat builder by trade and now a live on-board boaty on Mercedes' his latest venture, so as a loving Mum I had to go visit and so glad I did, it was a delight to see their new home and even the furbaby has taken to it like a duck to water despite being a cat.

Wonderful images Maureen - I used to live on a boat too and this certainly took me back to the sights, smells and sounds!

it's a wonderful lifestyle isn't it. The oceans nomads. They upped sticks this morning and moved from Moreton Island across to Horseshoe Bay on Peel Island to get a bit better protection from an anticipated blow.
