VOTED OUT ... Maureen Clifford © The #ScribblyBark Poet
Through long afternoons she wrote and rewrote
and edited and wrote some more -
endless duplication of just twenty six letters
arranged and rearranged by the score.
The words told the story, the tale - warts and all
it described the passion and madness
and touched on the tears, the pathos and pain,
pervading inexorable sadness.
No page was immaculate, words were scratched out
and another squeezed between the lines
and as the story flowed from the fingers to brain
there was scant attention paid to rhymes.
Words flowed like a river, and ebbed like the tides,
waxed and waned like the moon in the sky
till the story was told, and her heart felt release -
pent up breath escaped in a long sigh.
It is hard on a body to keep secrets hidden
away - they're best aired and accepted.
It's more dangerous than just letting truth out.
There's no shame in being rejected.

Hi Maureen
A sad story - but true, writing sure does give release!
I'm still thinking about those prompts ....
Cheers

A story often repeated, Maureen. But, as Shelley says, writing can sometimes help.

Words flowed like a river - I could do with some of that right now! Enjoyed this poem Maureen - I think we can all relate to this release found in writing.
