H'work for w/e 26.6.17 - LIGHT UP THE NIGHT

LIGHT UP THE NIGHT ... Maureen Clifford © The #ScribblyBark Poet

Now the masses had gathered - ten thousand or more
and that just on the Saturday night.
They had travelled the world , come from near and from far
to enjoy the festival of light.
Even Pippa showed up with her new bloke in tow
and this was in fact her honeymoon you know
but the word had got out of a bloody good show...
it was Vivid and it was in Sydney.

There was luminous colour wherever one looked
and the Opera House starred in the shows,
the coathanger displayed illuminated gowns
unabated the confidence grows.
We may not hold a candle to Paris or Rome
or New York some say - but we're proud of our home,
and no terrorist threat would see us condone
inner fears and kowtow - bow to terror.

For the most part, the crowds were well behaved to boot
and appropriate standards observed.
City pavements were thronged with a good natured crowd
who in sync moved as one common herd.
A plethora of poets, musicians and mimes
entertained the crowd - the weather Gods were kind
and it was the best - just the best of all times
to celebrate community spirit.

From the Rocks, Darling Harbour to Lavender Bay
there's a light show displayed in full splendour
and Mrs Macquarie alone in her chair
might marvel - her spirit surrender.
Sydney's transformed into a city of light
for twenty three days, as the days fade to night
the harbour lights up - it's a glorious sight...
and old Bennalong's ghost stares in wonder.

Well, you've showed us the way as usual, Maureen - an imaginative use of your prompts, indeed.

I've been cogitating on them but haven't come up with anything yet. Watch this space ...

Cheers

Thanks Shelley - it took on a life of its own and wasn't what was in my head originally - rather the terroist attack in London, but I goes with the flow

It's a good general message, Maureen. We were in the UK in the immediate aftermath of the Manchester bombing and the overall impression was of a determination that everyday life, including the election, continue as normally as possible. Security at airports was super-vigilant, but out in the always-green countryside the villages were as delightful and relaxed as they always are.

Cheers
David
