REQUIEM ... Maureen Clifford © The #ScribblyBarkPoet

They're flying high, their job is done.
The end was quick ... their race was run.
Words aren't enough to heal the pain,
the thought of not seeing again
those weathered faces, sparkling eyes,
and cheeky grins - tangerine skies
are now a shroud over their graves.
Each one a hero, staunch and brave.
Look out for rainbows, they will come -
as each man lost finds his new home.
And see the earth 'neath conflagration,
recuperates, regeneration
starts, and bark blistered and peeling,
sprouts small green shoots. Nature is healing
the earth, and she will heal us too
in time along with dingo, roo,
koalas, brumbies, reptiles, birds.
Our souls will ease, our prayers be heard.

God bless you Son. We'll hold you near
and not forget. No never fear
you made that sacrifice in vain.
We call you Hero, though the pain
is vicious, twisting like a knife -
we're proud of you, you gave your life
for others, stood and fought the fight,
faced down the flames. Our land, alight
called out for aid -
and you turned out. Bushfire brigade.
So rest in peace my brave, brave lad.
Your job is done. I love you .....
Dad

Hi Maureen

Yes there will be many broken hearts for our brave 'FIRIES' who lost their lives trying to save others and their property.

When you think of what some of those 'Firies' had to face, how could you think of anything else but admiration.

Well done Maureen you have touched upon the sadness that touches everyone.

I cannot comprehend how the firefighters faced raging inferno on days of 40+ heat. They're supermen and women.

Such a tragic situation that calls for such sacrifices from our front line bushfire warriors. :(
