EACH HOUR OF GRACE ... Maureen Clifford © The #ScribblyBarkPoet
The border gates across the land were closing one by one
a war was being fought across our land.
We hadn't seen the like of it for over sixty years
but now the time had come to make a stand.
Weekly rations were priced like gold and bloody hard to find
and panic slowly started now to creep
through the stunned population - who had never hardship seen
though older folk remembered, and did weep.
Our world has changed forever and if 'normal' e're returns
it will be a different 'normal' from before.
A cause for celebration will be simple tea for two
and a hug 'tween friends will just mean so much more.
For now people are relearning the simple joys of life
since necessity's the mother of invention.
Millennial's will learn to cook - or increasingly go hungry
as a nation locks its doors to aid prevention.
The weekend gathering of mate's at local clubs and bars
is now a memory - a fading ploy,
as Mothers now teach children some cooking skills of old -
the taste of homemade bread and cockies joy.
And plans to meet with mates to have a few beers and a barby
at best are a dry argument it seems.
A six dog night is pretty cold but not as cold as this
darn virus that has robbed all of their dreams.
And whilst beaches are empty and few planes now cross our skies,
as people isolate to slow infection.
Outside the world still carries on, the trees and grasses grow
as we perhaps take time for quiet reflection
to ponder on our futures - if indeed futures there are
to wonder perhaps just where we went wrong.
And hopefully tomorrow we will venture forth once more
to a world nature has healed, and sweet birdsong.

Hi Maureen
Things have changed alright, although there's a few idiots who don't seem to, or want to know.
Perhaps out of the horror that's sweeping the world, we might emerge better than before - you can only hope.
Stay Safe

A good summation of the situation Maureen.
Hey, there's one positive in this - it sure is spawning a lot of new poetry!!

Under the old " Law of Moses " the Israeli nation was required every seven years to leave fields fallow and every fifty years they had the " Year of Jubilee" in which the economy was to be deliberately flattened by freeing slaves and cancelling debts. Maybe Moses knew something we have yet to learn. Maybe we have to learn it the hard way.

Very well summed up, Maureen, and covers everything - describes the situation, reminds us of happier times we might've taken for granted, urges a time for reflection, and of course ends on a positive note for the future - well done! I also love the title.
