Homework April 2020 'ISOLATING'

ISOLATING

The Border Gates are closed to keep the eastern feral’s out,
I’ll have the place all to myself - it’s time that came about!
It looks like waters now the go; enough to make you weep,
I need a touch of something strong to try and get to sleep.

I’m stuck out in the bush these days afraid to go to town,
for Covids likely waiting there to try and take me down.
I stopped my weekly rations too, and live now of the land,
and luckily bush tucker here is always near at hand.

But what about essentials then, to keep the chill at bay,
a drop of rum can do no harm despite what wowsers say.
It’s six dog nights out here right now, Brass Monkey’s some would say,
a bottle comes in handy too, for snake bite by the way.

I’d bake some scones as well to help, if shops weren’t all stripped bare
some city mongrels hit the town and weren’t prepared to share
Perhaps it’s for the better, best to stay away from there
though if you’re passing by, I hope you have a drop to spare.

Good one Terry! Yep, I reckon a drop of rum to ward off the cold is just the ticket! COVID doesn't like the cold - so what better excuse?? ;)

Thanks Shelley

I've even tidied it up a bit - it needed it as well.

Cheers

Isn't rum "essentials " Terry. The liquor section in the supermarket is open.

Hi Neville

I must be honest our camps were always dry, the only exceptions I can remember,
were a couple of times when one of us had a birthday and we had taken a few light beers to help him celebrate it.

My mate Nigel carried a bottle of wine around for years in case we ever cracked the 100 ounces on a trip,
I'll tell you the whole story about that, one of these days.

Cheers Neville and be careful mate

Hi Shelley

I somehow ended up with my reply to your poem on this one - don't ask me how -
and couldn't get rid of it.

By the way I noticed when writing this I started spelling your name without the 'EY' but noticed it in time.
Hope I haven't been making a habit of that?

Top poem Terry - enjoyed reading it and as always it painted a picture for me. A dash of that rum sounds good right now - haven't had that for many moons. We've got a temporary ban on the purchase of alcohol here right now - still, that ends soon and meanwhile I've had plenty of gin in the cupboard!

Hi Catherine

Can't remember the last time I tasted Rum either.
With all the grim news about of late I thought I'd try a light hearted slant on this one.
I wish I was actually out there instead of cooped up at home,
Mind you I have a mini market garden growing out the back - you have to keep busy.

Cheers Catherine take care and go easy on the Gin.
