The decision is with the organiser as to what they accept. If they state that it must be all the entrants own work then so be it.

The other option of course would be to encourage competitions to introduce a collaborative section. ???

Why not a section in the comps for co-authored work?

G'day all,

Back when I first started writing I would often ask someone (who knew better than me) to look over my poems. I hoped to learn this way. I had one particular poem that someone else had looked at and had suggested a couple of spots that needed smoothing out. while they did not rewrite anything, they did give me an alternate word here and there. The poem went on to receive a couple of 'C's. and 'HC's. but Didn't win any major places but I did feel a bit guilty at having had some help with it. More recently I have tried to get along on my own. Mind you I don't seem to be producing much these last few months. I haven't woken up at 3am with a brillant idea for yonks! (too much Ukulele playing, I fear)
I also had a poem which was returned with judges comments. I changed one word and the next comp it came in the top 5. The power on one word surprised me. (it was a different judge, by the way)

Maybe some competition could try a section for collaborative works?
