Re: Poet Poll
G'day folks.
For lovers of bush poetry (all of us) both Lawson & Paterson are obviously masters. Banjo appears to have had a greater love of rollicking rhythm & rhyme. Many of Henry's best-loved poems grip the heart of readers even today. On occasion, each of them excelled in both areas. Like all art, it comes down to personal preference: the eyes & ears of the beholder.
Put my vote down for Paterson.
Regards,
Cobber

G’Day Cobber.
Heather.
My vote is for Banjo.
In the early days of reading I found Henry Lawson to be too much of a red ragger but must admit that over the last few years I have been reading Lawson and have been pleasantly surprised at how many I do like.
So my vote is still Paterson but Lawson is catching up.

No Bob,
You are not the only one.
Once, a visiting Board member asked me (then the 'dogs-body' of the firm, doing everything from lunch ordering to payroll) what was my role to which I answered that I was the bottom of the totem pole. He said something like 'oh don't put yourself down'. Then I chimed in with a broad smile. saying "No, that isn't putting myself down. I know my role, I support the rest of them. If I let go the whole place would fall apart."

Re: Poet Poll
Lawson vs Paterson - I like the way someone likened the pair to a fine white and a good red (or something like that) but I have always thought of Paterson as a fine white and Lawson as a rough red. I think I prefer Lawson though I never did when I was younger. I studied Lawson's short stories at uni and liked his work but thought it very basic and liked Paterson better. As I have aged it seems Lawson has also matured. You know what they say: When you were 17 you thought your father was immature but as you grew somehow your father gained an enormous amount of sense. I think this is true as far as I am concerned with the two; Paterson was my favourite and then I grew up and suddenly Lawson became mature and a hero.
