Congratulations Sue,
First on connecting with the young ones and second for being asked to participate in the new venture.
It must be a bit difficult to ask for help when you have no idea what you need. David Campbell has an excellent children's book and of course Stephen Whitesides has several. They would be the best ones to ask about most successful format. You should find out what the children themselves (or their teacher) have in mind. Is their intention to produce a truly commercial book or are they after something in the more modest range of, say about 50 to 100 copies for sale or distribution among the local community?
The very first book I produced for my group was intended to be about 20 copies but ended up closer to 80 in the end. The book I did for Glenny of croc's work I made 50 to kick her off and gave her the lot on a memory stick so she can have more done if needed. (that was my eighth book.) I would be happy to share any info I have picked up on the way. If you think I can help just pm me anytime.

Re: Kids Poetry
Thank you Zondrae
I probably should have emphasised a little more that I am not the one putting the book together. I was asked if I had any suggestions to put forward and having never gone down the road of publication, I suggested putting the feelers out to my co poets and forwarding their ideas, which I have done, so a big thank you to all for your input. I will keep you informed as the journey unfolds.
Cheers

Re: Kids Poetry
Thanks for the update Sue,
I have not been involved in professional printing. Only in producing my own. In other words I've spent probable twice what it would have cost getting a small run done, in setting up my equipment. However It gives me control of everything and now I am set up I can continue. In my case the Laser printer and the monster guillotine were the essentials.

Re: Kids Poetry
....and a fine job Zondrae does!
I have only two of croc's books left, (thought I was completely out but found 2 in my glovebox...??) & my printer (of old) has the material from the memory stick in her hot little hand, ready to do another run. The only moan she had was that she'd like to number the pages. Goodo. I will forever be grateful to Zondrae for kicking off this lovely legacy croc left us....& for encouraging me to publish more of croc's unique verses...(& rants).
Good luck with your project Sue. It's just bonza how you are nurturing our next generation of bards.
xx Glenny
