Hey Stephen. I reckon you should stick to 'Silence of the Lambs' mate. And don't ever watch 'Avatar'.

Can we get back to this please? It was a genuine sharing of something that was important to Neville, & as he has never disrespected anyone, that I've seen, perhaps we could pay him the same due?

(has someone unleashed a 'nasty' bug around here, of late? )

Neville Briggs wrote: " To draw is to look, examining the structure of appearances. A drawing of a tree shows not a tree, but a tree being looked at "
John Berger.

A had one of those, eureka light bulb moments when I read that. I am sure that it applies equally true to writing a poem. To paraphrase the quote
" Poetry is to look and listen, examining the nature of the experience and relationships.
A poem shows not an experience but an experience being thought about "
my paraphrase.

Yes, but he's floating in water, not flying and, yes, I did find Avatar irritating in that way.

Thanks Steven

but it is way past Aspirin. I've been to the 'quack' the physio three times and on muscle relaxing drugs, and stronger pain pills. I've finished the pack of Voltarin (or whichever anti-inflammatory it was). Still in agony on and off. It comes good then goes bad again.

Sorry folks.. I'll take my problems elsewhere. Unless I get a decent poem out of it.

Neville I like your paraphrase, "a poem shows not an experience but an experience being thought about".
To me it says that poetry is more than just a story in verse. Rather it is something that has been considered; looked at in a new way; or somehow offers the reader more than just a 'photograph'; perhaps even start to define what the difference between poetry and verse may be...

(with a clear head - no drugs)

I apologise to Neville and Glenny and others who were sharing a serious artistic discourse, for stealing the thread and will try not to do it again.

Oh Zondrae...don't be upset love...we are ALL guilty of it. Like Maureen said, we're like a mob of sheep at times....or as Marty said 'like Herding Cats'.
I sincerely hope you are soon free of this debilitating condition, & pray that it isn't Torticollis, or if it is, that you survive having that pretty neck sliced up. (Hey. Maybe we can get Mannie to set up a 'Diagnosis' section for on-line Dr Stephen help?....in his 'spare' time that is. :D )

As Mannie would say...'settle Petal'.
