Community loses great patriot

Tributes are flowing in for former Deputy Mayor Mikie Maas who died at Gunnedah Hospital on saturday morning. affectionately known as Mikie, the much-loved founder of the Dorothea Mackellar poetry awards for schools was born in Holland but had her feet and heart firmly planted in Australia.
in 1987 she recieived the medal of order of Australia (OAM) followed by the Centenary Medal in 2001. in the same year she was inducted into the Australian Pioneer Women's hall of fame.
The funeral service for the late Mikie Maas will be held at the Edlen Chapel, Gunnedah Memorial Park, at 3pm on Friday October 28th. 2011
