Blackened Billy

Post by Stephen Whiteside » Wed Nov 21, 2012 9:02 am

I was recently reading the Blackened Billy entry form, and I was pleased to see that the rules conform with what David Campbell is suggesting - published poems are acceptable, providing they have not earned the poet any remuneration.

I don't know if this is a new development or not. I haven't entered the Blackened Billy before, and don't know what their rules have been in the past. Either way, it is good to see a leading competition taking such a sensible approach.

Stephen

From memory, that's been their rule for quite some time. The Blackened Billy sets a very good standard for quality and clarity with regard to guidelines. There's also a clear timeline, with the date for the announcement of results given. Some competitions, unfortunately, don't provide this information and entrants can be left waiting in limbo for several months, unsure whether their poem is still eligible to be entered elsewhere. I encountered one of these this year and won't bother with it again.

Cheers
David

G/day David & Stephen

I also think this competition is one of those that stands out like a beacon.
More power to them I reckon.

When the performance comp is out of the way i reckon ABPA should take over the written comp as well and rotate the judges ?

Wouldn't that make the judges rather dizzy ?
