A fabulous new initiative for the promotion of poetry for children in Australia is the new "Australian Children's Poetry" web-site.
It can be found here:
http://australianchildrenspoetry.com.au
It is not exclusively rhyming verse, but it does contain rhyming verse. Rhyming verse for children would appear to have a legitimacy that rhyming verse for adults in Australia does not.
The web-site is new, but is already bulging with information. I'm sure it will continue to grow rapidly.

It's pretty good Stephen isn't it - I would have liked to see some illustrations on it though to draw the kids in and encourage their reading but perhaps it is designed more for teachers etc to download material from.

Thanks for the feedback, Maureen. It's a good point. I'll pass it on. It is probably partly a function of the way publishing works these days. Writers and illustrators don't have many opportunities to come together.
