Death of John Dengate

Post by Vic Jefferies » Sun Aug 04, 2013 9:45 am

I am sad to report the passing of John Dengate last Thursday at his home in Glebe, Sydney.
John was a much loved poet, singer, musician, satirist, folklorist and wonderful raconteur.
John was regarded by those in the folk scene as a living national treasure.
John's funeral service will be held in the north chapel of Northern Suburbs Crematorium, 199 Delhi Road, North Ryde on Thursday, August 8 at 1.15pm.

With respect.

The passing of John Dengate will be a great loss to the Australian Folk Scene and contemporary writing in general.
He was an outstanding writer and performer. His talents included poetry, music and drawing.
He was a enthralling performer in many genres.
He wrote poetry in various styles and was well known for his political satire.
He will be very sorely missed.

I never knew John personally but it is always a sad loss when a person with such talent is lost to our world - let us hope that he is now keeping the angels entertained.
