Why does there have to be a special award for top Victorian. That's discrimination.

It was something that was voted on at an ABPA meeting a few years ago when the state championships were changed to include "Open" in the titles. This was due to competitors from outside the host state attending and taking away the big prizes and it was felt that the top performers from within the host state should also be recognised in some way. In Victoria, they decided it would be a nice gesture to give them a trophy. It is up to the organisers in the host state to determine how they will recognise their top performers.

I possibly should have mentioned somewhere that Corryong was this year's Victorian Open Bush Poetry Championships. I will add that in to the initial post so that others aren't confused.
